In India, Huawei has committed itself to the national cause of "bridging the digital divide". Huawei is in the process of implementing an ambitious project of interconnecting 500 rural schools and provide the infrastructure and tools for the same. Huawei India Footprint: Milestones

1999
Huawei established its R&D center in Bangalore and currently employs more than 2000 R&D engineers and has invested approximately USD 200 Million till date. The R&D center provides project support to the respective product lines.
2001-02
Huawei Telecommunications India Private Limited (Huawei India) established Sales and Marketing office in Gurgaon and started business with first set of clients in the public sector domain, namely BSNL and MTNL - Executed BSNL's National Information Backbone project implementation for DWDM in India – Entry into MTNL GSM and CDMA network deployments.
2003-04
Huawei India progressed in the private sector, both in the GSM and CDMA business - The first project in Punjab with HFCL – deployed GSM TDM soft switch with regional operator Spice - Later, Huawei moved to the tier- 1 operators in the private sector, where it began work for Reliance and Tata for the CDMA opportunity – Huawei was selected to provide more than 13000 BTS and more than 30Million switching capacity.
2005–08
Huawei consolidated its presence in India by forging strong relationships with Tier-1 GSM operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance, Aircel and extended its GSM HSPA solutions to Airtel, Aircel and Vodafone – Huawei successfully completed 3G trials for Bharti Airtel and was selected to deploy its solution for GSM and HSPA for Airtel's prestigious Sri Lanka project.
2008-10
Huawei India targets to be in the top-3 suppliers list for solutions and services
2010-11
  • Huawei has been awarded 3G network contracts from leading telecom operators in India for almost 17 telecom license circles – one of the largest share of the 3G networks awarded.
  • Huawei has pledged an investment corpus of USD 2 Billion to be invested in India over a period of 5 years from 2011 in the areas of India manufacturing, India R&D, India CSR and capacity development of India operations
  • Huawei diversified its business portfolio from Network to other growth areas like Enterprise and Devices also retaining its focus on 2G, 3G and LTE network
  • On the CSR front Huawei launched its E-hope program.
